Mestre Eclilson de Jesus
Artistic Director, Master of Capoeira, Choreographer, Percussionist
Originally from Recife, Brazil, Mestre Eclilson was influenced at an early age by the folkloric musical atmosphere of Recife. Known for his sinuous agility and breathtaking acrobatics, he was invited to perform for the Children’s festivals throughout North America in 1990 and decided to make Vancouver his new home. Eclilson is a master of Capoeira with over 25 years of experience. He has a strong capoeira academy schools in Canada (Vancouver and Calgary), Japan, Malaysia, France and in his native country, Brazil.
Mestre Eclilson has brought his infectious style and founded the group Aché Brasil which has gone on to become one of the most popular touring music and dance group in Canada. He also works as a stuntman appearing in several films including, “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Electra, Blade Trinity, Bionic Woman, The Eyes, etc.”
A dynamic performer, he started performing with Aché Brasil in 2000. Known as Camara, he has studied capoeira with Mestre Eclilson de Jesus since 1997, receiving his Formado belt in 2005 and Monitor in 2008. He is known for being multi-talented with outstanding acrobatic skills and a strong singing voice. Camara has trained as a dancer, actor and musician. Recently Camara travelled to China with Mestre Eclilson, where he was featured on the cover of Fitness and Beauty, a fitness magazine distributed throughout China.
Ronald began as a student of Capoeira at the Capoeira Aché Brasil Academy in 1997. After a few years of training, Ronald exceeded the expectations of the academy and was invited to be a performer for Aché Brasil. He has been touring and performing since then becoming an important member of the group. He continued his training by traveling to Brazil where he practiced Capoeira, Afro-Brazilian dances and Brazilian percussion. In the 2000, Ronald was invited to perform with the Electric Theatre Company on the production of Dona Flor and her two husbands.
Daughter of Mestre Eclilson, Vanessa grew up in a musical environment, which allowed her to become a skilled multi-disciplined performing artist. Her musical career began at the age of 5 with her first show at the Vancouver
Play House Theatre. As she grew up she played an active role in Aché Brasil performing Capoeira, Afro-Brazilian dances and Brazilian percussion. At the age of seventeen she was invited to be the female lead vocalist for the group, allowing her to develop her talent as a vocalist. Her martial arts background allowed her to be featured as a stunt/performer in the television series Stargate and movie Electra. Inspired to write and perform her own music has allowed NessaV to explore other genres and create a sound that is her own. Born in Olinda, Pernambuco, Brazil, Fernando studied for several years at the University of FUNESE. As a writer and composer much of his lyrics deal with the history and heritage of the Afro-Brazilian culture. He has recently composed several songs which will be in Aché Brasil’s new CD release. He resides in Vancouver, Canada and works exclusively with Aché Brasil.
Andrea is a dancer and choreographer from Brazil. She discovered her passion for dancing at an early age, starting ballet at the age of 5 in Sao Paulo. She went on study acting, voice, and circus performance with Cia Litero Dramatica Martins Pena. Andrea has gone on to perform with a variety of groups and as a solo performer in Brazil, China, Tibet, and Canada. Her high energy, love of dance, and strong audience connection make her a sought after performer of dances such as Samba, Salsa, Forro, as well as modern dance Hip Hop, Electronic, and Gypsy styles
